The Blame is a proposal for an inflatable sign to be ferried around the island of Cyprus by Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot tug boats. The sign will be made from multi-coloured letters mounted on a floating pontoon and stand around 4 metres high. One feature of Cypriot shipping is the mutual disconnect between Greek controlled and Turkish controlled routes. Despite the opening of several land border crossing points along the demilitarized zone in recent years there continues to be no mutally regarded facility for boats to sail around the island of Cyprus. We propose that our inflatable sign is towed alternately by boats sailing under Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot flags. The sign will face the coast and each boat will sail all in a clockwise direction. Thus the sign will be taken by a Turkish Cypriot boat between Maratime Security Line (MSL) points near Kokkina to the MSL point north of Cape Greco. Here it would be passed to a Greek Cypriot boat which would take it via the southern coast to the MSL point at Kokkina. Here the sign is passed on again and the cycle resumes. The boats will sail from the early hours of the morning until the evening. Over a period of six days the work could comfortably make three complete revolutions of the island. . |
