Laurence Lane's "Now thats what I call Market Street" extends his interest in urban sound to the pop hits that are routinely pumped out of the homogenised spaces that form our city centres retail areas. Lane visited Maket Street Manchester and recorded the sounds coming out of the public address system in each of the shops. These recording are made available here in MP3 format for users to download and listen to at their own convenience. The tracks mimic the complication format, itself a stallwart of the HMV/Virgin/Andy's which populate this, and other Market Streets throughout the transpennine region.
